Winter solstice
The birth of light, in music without boundaries

Birth is embedded in winter, in its longest and darkest night. It is at this pivotal point – the Winter Solstice, 21 December – that light returns and the days grow longer. People in the northern hemisphere have been celebrating it since time immemorial. Christianity added the birth of Jesus to the mix – a few days later, on 25 December – as a shining star for the world. The Persians also celebrate the transition. They call it Yalda, the birth night. Come and celebrate this birth of light with us, with poetry and music from ancient Persian and Scandinavian traditions to Bach and vocal enlightenment.
