When we hold an object for the first time, we often feel an irresistible urge to tap it, hit it or rub it. Wood, metal, stone, stretched animal skin… when struck, every material has its own unique timbre. In Beat it! 3.0 we return to those primordial, natural sounds for four days. Percussionists will set our ears aquiver: with a virtuoso Mozart and Chopin on wood, a dizzying Ikeda on metal, paper and skin, a meditative Johnson and Oliveros on metal, and a refreshing Tan Dun with water.
