In Search of America

When photographer Katrien Orlans lost her mother, she, like so many others, set out to find a way to cope with her grief. In Orlans' case, it became a literal search. Indeed, her mother was completely captivated by the United States. Her parents travelled from Hollywood to Denver, Memphis, New York ... each time returning home with incredible stories. Together with her family, Katrien Orlans travelled the country herself after her mother's death to record what fascinated her mother. To grasp the grandeur of the country. The endless empty roads. The melancholy of motels. The people. "What does 'mother' mean to you?" she invariably asks each person who poses in front of her lens. This expo is part of the festival Motherhood.
