Italian Baroque means spectacle, seduction and drama. Sweet or bitter feelings, everything is magnified. No wonder that Handel – who had just arrived after crossing the Alps and the Channel – effortlessly wound the London audience around his little finger, just as Vivaldi had previously done in Venice. Canada's most exciting Baroque orchestra, Tafelmusik, were recently given an added dash of Italian inspiration by their new music director Elisa Citterio. Together with diva assoluta Karina Gauvin, she promises (violinistic) fireworks.
