Four-day medical congress takes over the Concertgebouw

Four-day medical congress takes over the Concertgebouw

From 19 to 23 March, Bruges was the setting for the 14th European Lupus Meeting. After four congress days in and around the Concertgebouw, the lupus disease no longer holds any secrets for the 750 participating specialists from all corners of Europe.

Opening plenary session with piano play

The driving force behind the congress, professor Frédéric Houssiau, single-handedly (yet using both hands …) graced the opening plenary session in the Concert hall with his piano play. Following this melodious starting signal, the delegates immersed themselves during several days into various topics. Depending on their interests and specialities, they alternated between sessions in the Concert hall, the Chamber music hall and Studio 1.

Epicentre Atrium

The epicentre of the conference was the Atrium. There, participants gathered after parallel sessions, interacting over sustainable drinks and bites from caterer Deldycke. The Atrium also housed a booth area, which introduced them to the latest product developments, and info panels with relevant research results. During each break, congress delegates eagerly used the temporary seating areas on the mezzanine floors of the Atrium to have one-to-one conversations. On the penultimate day, the congress programme also included an interactive component with various talking circles, amongst others in the inspiring Angel Room.

A multi-faceted congress

A multi-faceted congress requires a versatile venue. For event agency Medicongress, which realised the Lupus Meeting commissioned by professor Houssiau in collaboration with directing partner Create, the Concertgebouw's ample possibilities came in useful:

'Bruges proved to be the right choice for the organisation of the 14th European Lupus Meeting. We welcomed a record number of participants. The Concertgebouw was the perfect venue: centrally located, with state-of-the-art facilities and beautiful rooms. The collaboration went very smoothly and professionally, for which our sincere gratitude!'

Sustainable conference catering

From the biscuits with the coffee to the toppings of the healthy salads: providing 750 delegates with high-quality and sustainable catering for four days is quite an intensive undertaking. Fortunately, caterer Deldycke boasts years of experience.

'We are enjoying the benefits of two decades of intense cooperation between our catering company and the Concertgebouw. The Lupus Congress was a dazzling feat in terms of size, organisation and timing. I am immensely proud of the excellent preparation and mise en place of our entire team.'
